Muhyiddin being probed for alleged 3R violation

CHUKAI: An investigation paper has been opened against Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for allegedly making statements that touched on religion, race and royalty (3R) issues while campaigning for the Kemaman by-election recently, says Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

The Deputy Inspector-General of Police said the investigation of the Perikatan Nasional chairman was being carried out under Section 4(A) of the Election Offences Act 1954 for allegedly promoting feelings of ill-will or hostility.

He said the investigation followed a police report lodged against Muhyiddin on Friday, Bernama reported.

At a recent ceramah, Muhyiddin, who is also Bersatu president, allegedly issued a “fatwa” (edict) for Umno members to leave the party.

He also allegedly said Umno members who did so would be rewarded for their “hijrah” (migration).

Meanwhile, Ayob Khan reminded all party supporters not to hold any gatherings or post-election parades so as not to create public disorder.

“The police will take appropriate measures to ensure public safety and order during the post-election period,” he told a press conference after observing the voting process at a polling centre in SK Bukit Mentok here yesterday.

He added some 280 policemen were being mobilised to ensure a smooth by-election in Kemaman.
